38 days is the gestation period of the North American Red Squirrel

Not as cute as Cyril - but I had to use the fact!

The North American Red Squirrel is different from the Brtish Red Squirrel, which is unfortunately facing an uncertain future as the introduced North American Grey Squirrel (ie the Cyril Squirrel) take over their habitat. There are only 140,000 Red Squirrels in Britain, but an estimated 2.5 million Cyrils. I'm yet to see one, but hope to get to one day.

It is interesting that Britain has an issue with an introduced species - ever heard of the rabbit, sparrow, camel, fox, cane toad........
